This wasn't about whether a man or woman is a better manager, as much as just a desire to invite some different perspective into my career growth.

I can just picture my toddler running by it and knocking it down with the slightest touch πŸ˜… maybe the wider one is sturdier.

For sure, I realize that. It makes me want to ask why. But don't want to downplay the value in having those experiences and opportunities to have diverse experience with managers & leaders.

Of course this wouldn't work once you're in with smaller orgs, but *usually* whoever interviewed you becomes your manager, so it's a chance to also interview them & see if it's a good fit.

It feels like who you report to just sort of happens and isn’t usually something you get much say in. Curious to hear different approaches to matching managers with direct reports.

I’ve literally only ever had white men as my manager and really want to experience something different before becoming one myself. Is it a fair request?

Womxn- have you ever asked for a womxn manager specifically? How was that received & did it happen?

Genuinely curious tho- wouldn't you rather use that time you do manage to find to update a case study than to do a fake project?

I get that. I just don't see any hypothetical challenge being a better representation of my skills and thinking than actual work I've completed.

so far wfh has been a series of finding corners and rooms to hide from my toddler in to the point where I think he thinks it's a game. πŸ˜‚ definitely need to get my office renovated ASAP.

They think the time limit & exact same design prompt makes it fair to judge competency. It’s not. A real project during work hours with a real world problem & real world constraints is fair. AKA PORTFOLIO.

I always come back to why our portfolios don’t suffice. They literally are the best examples of how we think through & solve problems. Not a 4 hour challenge. Is it bc they just want an easier way to compare candidates?
