ESPN ranked Israel 13th among the top international basketball leagues, noting that players often sign there for less money because "Israel is an exceptionally desirable place to live", and "players are treated well by both the clubs and fans". Agreed!

What a remarkable way to wrap up two exhilarating weeks of promoting Alley-Oop to Aliyah - presenting with the book! This whole process began more than 10 years ago because I was struck by how much my Israeli grandmother’s friends loved and admired him!

Was great to meet assistant coach Corey Gaines - he played 5 years in Israel and called it “by far” his favourite experience overseas. He also once told a disbelieving NBA team owner (who was Jewish) that Gaines knew more about Israel and Judaism than he did!

Thanks to & for their coverage of Alley-Oop to Aliyah. Interesting side note: Our interview was interrupted by a 90-something woman who survived the Holocaust, lived in Israel before moving to Canada, and was fascinated by Fred Campbell's story!

Happy birthday to Fred Campbell, who made the trip all the way from Israel to help launch Alley-Oop to Aliyah! Fred is a proud Israeli and, at 55, still an active player, competing on the same team as his 18-year-old son!

Really cool story (in Hebrew) about Desi Barmore Jr returning to the country of his birth to play, years after his father made his mark in Israeli basketball:

Fun facts about this picture: It's taken in Deon's home, in front of a hamsa (a palm-shaped amulet that's said to to ward off the evil eye according to Jewish and other cultures). Also, the picture was taken by Deon's daughter, who's mentioned in the book!
