Chris(topher) Skinner - good luck to you 8h
Thanks for the hundreds of questions you threw at and yesterday. Some of the best made it into our special Q&A episode which is out now: (Including a fine intro, IMHO)

To clarify - I used the word ‘designed’ wrongly here. The 8 hour work day was of course the result of huge historical movements. My focus was more on the structural outcomes of understandings about productivity being based on a particular work modality.

Thanks, yes. People are rightly making this point. I didn’t articulate premise clearly enough; fudged it with the word ‘designed’. Wasn’t focused on structural origin so much as capitalist understandings of ‘optimal’ productivity being based on physical rather than mental labour

That wasn’t my intention; I’m less interested in guilt or sympathy here than in the differences between the conditions that lead to optimal productivity in different forums. But you’re right, there are many terrible circumstances in which people suffer and it’s nice to care.

Thanks, yes. People are rightly making this point. I didn’t make the setup clearly enough - I didn’t mean to be talking about the origins of workers rights so much as capitalist understandings of ‘optimal’ productivity being based on physical rather than mental labour.

Thank you, that means a lot. The show is really my heart on a plate. If you’re interested, savage is part of a trilogy that’s available for free as a podcast, or the second part of the trilogy is available on Amazon, my Patreon and my website shop.
