Btw, this is from the writer/director . The movie seems to be unfairly being accused of "white savior" tropes when in reality the movie is about a teenage girl showing true independence and agency. Maybe we shouldn't attack Muslim women for being individuals.

Also, this is important. The writer/director seems to be telling a semi- autobiographical story. It would be a damn shame if we told her she can't tell it how she lived it for some kind of awkward political correctness.

I guess the only legit criticism I'd have, before watching this, is why does the white dude have to be the one to save her? I've seen this before with Bend it Like Beckham. I'd watch it anyway, because if it's triggering snowflake Muslims, it must be worth it.
