a reminder I could have used today (and about a dozen times in the past): if a program is failing in novel and very puzzling ways, make sure you don't have any interesting ulimits set before driving yourself crazy debugging it

in a world where we often deride trendy social media-based celebrity activism as performative and useless, the funds raised by the ice bucket challenge went directly to research and brought us ten years closer to a cure. Pat changed the world for ALS families like mine.

If you code anyone who wants to scale back the holidays and cancel in-person gatherings this year as "the radical far left", then it's "the radical far left" who are trying to stop Thanksgiving and Christmas from being days of mourning and despair for the rest of our lifetimes.

You would only need \ to override a shell alias, but sudo won’t use a shell alias anyway. (Also, you don’t need it with POSIX rm, since -f overrides -i — you only need that with historical rm like Solaris.)

Something I do want to point out is a form of bias in documentation. "If I understand something, it must be simple. If I don't understand it, it must be hard." I fall victim to this one ALL THE DAMN TIME. Every one of you reading this knows a "simple" thing that'd floor me.
