zlib.net/pigz/ is worth a try. Reading will still be slow.

At the end of the day, writing serialised files to disk is just compress -> stream to disk. Maybe you can use a slightly faster compression algo, though I think gzip is pretty fast. Otherwise limited by disk speed. Unless the code for streaming is very inefficient for some reason

That's another good one - plenty of people cycling with the equivalent of high beams. Cheers, you too.

Good man. Just get tired of hearing about how dangerous cyclists are given how I'm treated on the road. tbh I get annoyed at people with no lights, even on offroad cycle paths - makes life more dangerous for me in the long run. I used to drive so I see both sides as well.

Twice this winter I've had people cut me off while at full speed (~20mph) while using bright lights and wearing a high vis. Was knocked off on a roundabout in similar circumstances. Stop blaming cyclists for inattentive drivers.

I have good lights and reflectors, and I wear a high vis. I've been knocked off my bike once and had many, many close calls. Excuses aside, please take care to look for cyclists in the dark. Lit or unlit, people seem to find us hard to spot.

Asked to write a chapter about RNA-seq counts modeling, I used #rstats bookdown to put all the material online. Includes some new workflow pieces like tximeta for import and swish for transcript level:

I generally write 2020-01-31 or, if I forget the sacred ISO standard and write the day first, 01-Jan-2020.

This is UK/Ireland. I think it's a traffic issue but I don't know if it's improved matters or if somebody is just good at selling it

It seems very much in vogue to replace roundabouts with intersections nowadays, which seems very strange to me

The key is having a good amount of light but gradually, so I dunno if an app would work? There's a magic period in spring/autumn where you can get the same effect with just open curtains

I use a Phillips one I bought from Amazon, I think a smart bulb might be a decent alternative as I think once the (led) bulb goes in mine it's gimped
