Rumours circulating that the only thing making the govt determined to continue with this ludicrous Brexit charade is the threat of civil unrest from the loony right. Police and HO advise that they might not be able to cope.Govts abhor civil unrest, and right threatens violence.

The Govt needs to remember that the same people who riot for Brexit are even more likely to riot when they discover that Brexit does not deliver what was promised.

It’s time to start a civil disobedience campaign to stop . Let’s start with not paying council tax.

Not sure punishing local authorities who carry the consequences of non payment of council tax is the right approach. Civil disobedience more effective

Happy to hear your suggestions. Stopping tax payments is difficult, so what disobedience are you thinking of?

If they can subdue the miners, dockers, and steelworkers then I’m sure they can handle a few bar-room reactionaries

Can I direct you to Gandhi? Taxes, labour, refusal to engage with civil authorities, protests, marches, but no violence and no crime.

I know a retired police officer who still has friends in the force. They all tell him that they are woefully under-strength because of Conservative Government cuts.

He says that at night PCs may attend an incident in Bootle and the next one could be in Southport, which is 17 miles or 30 minutes' drive away.

Makes sense. There has been a very strong smell of fear emanating from the UK government ever since the referendum, and that is what the rabid are feeding on.

Bring it on. The Britain they are so patriotic about can cope with a few rioting arseholes.

That is nonsense. If the police have really said this, which I doubt, then they are incompetent idiots. Plus we have a very well disciplined army. I call bulls.......

I don't think it's about quelling the riots, but about them happening at all. The govt is most concerned with its own survival, and rioting has brought down several govts in the recent past (Thatcher, Heath).
