In the past two years alone: -WSJ cut its Greater New York section -NYT downsized its metro desk -Gothamist & DNA Info closed (and reopened, but with less staff) -NYDN cut its newsroom in half Hard not to be truly alarmed about the state of local reporting in NYC.

Hi Jaime - here's the latest has learned: a high pressure steam pipe leak caused a pipe explosion. Evacuations are underway. No reported injuries at this moment. Cause is still under investigation. Possible road closures btwn 19-22nd streets, 5th Ave and Broadway.
