I've (re?)discovered Android's developer mode, and it's so so nice to be able to get the OS to assert some proper authority over the apps. There's no reason an app should be able to refuse split-screen, for example. Now they can't!

I'm replying to you from a Blackberry. It runs Android and still has that delicious delicious keyboard.

If the regulation is written to be "Whatever the current USB standard is" then it's fine. If it's "This exact technical spec" then it'll be a disaster.

Dear Reading Public, When Senators use police to stop reporters from asking them questions in the place where they do the people’s business — where you pay the electric, the water, the maintenance & their salaries — they are doing it to so you can’t see what you’re paying for.

I've been running nothing but Thinkpads for twenty years. In that time there have been only two charger types, which are electrically compatible so only a physical adapter is needed between them. I have accumulated dozens and dozens of chargers. It's so nice.

This is a very good article on the Attack Helicopter story, which closely aligns with my reading of the story.

I am still in the office working on SB 50 (about to leave!). Someone just called our main office line. I answered. They first thought it was a wrong number, then - laughing - I explained that indeed, this is Senator Wiener's office answering the phone in the middle of the night.

It's a cyberpunk psychological horror story, and the disturbance caused by the title primes you to be suitably unnerved by the payload. Unfortunately the level of disturbance caused by the title is so different from person to person that it calibrates poorly.

Anyway it's late and I'm rambling, sorry for the tangent!

But the fact that the story's payload is tipped with a transphobic meme means that so many people will (quite reasonably) bounce off it. It's a story that would fit in well in a nightmare-fuel repository like SCP, but that's a place of very specific tastes.

FWIW, this story really helped me grok gender identity in a way that I had not been able to previously as a cis person. Taking the concept of gender and stripping its grounding in our reality and reapplying it in some detail in a cyberpunk post-apocalyptic setting is fascinating.
