I never pass up the opportunity to write about Nigerian food + cooking secrets because it’s a lesser known cuisine as far as mainstream goes. Writing about Maggi cubes for was fun + surreal.

My former editor asked me to write something for Black History Month. What resulted was this piece on neckbones & lima beans, a dish I *really* hate, for .

4. All in all, this was actually a pretty dope year writing wise. I broke into a lot of new outlets. I reimagined the travel writing I do and ditched the boring, bland, soulless roundups. I’m proud of myself. Without further ado...🥁.

3. I’m not sharing my rates so don’t expect them. I don’t want to and that’s it on that.

2. I traveled more this year than I ever have. 10 countries, countless domestic cities. And while yes, I’m sure you loved the photos I shared along the way & thought I was living the life, know my travels were some of the only moments of joy I had bc I’ve felt so fucking lost.

1. I didn’t have a great year. My best friend died suddenly late last year and I spent most of this year in an all-consuming cloud of sadness. Then my mother’s breast cancer came back a few months ago (she’s fine and now cancer free). Not an easy year in the least.

Hello! It’s time for my year-end review and my fave things I’ve written this year. A couple things before I launch into that:

Are you a U.S. based minority journalist looking to report a story abroad? You're in luck! Applications are now open for ’s Bringing Home the World fellowship. I did it in 2015 and it was amazing

People who hate boundaries will try to convince you that your boundaries are the problem when it is really their inability to respect them. Set boundaries. Often. It's healthy. You're doing nothing wrong by having limits.

I want salt and vinegar chips so bad right now and I don’t have them that I’m actually crying. PMS is such a raggedy bitch. 😒

😭 You’re not offbase really! Valid question. But yeah I imagine twins charts would be quite similar with slight variances. Prolly appear identical at first glance.

Technically they wouldn’t have the same chart because the time would be different. 🤔

😭 No thanks! All my deadlines the last few weeks (in addition to being out of the country for a week) nearly killed me! 😫

I really wish flights to Buenos Aires were reasonable. Every time I price flights there, the price remains wildly expensive and I want to sob.

To me, love is freedom. Maybe it’s my Sagittarius moon sensibilities, but I’ve yet to be loved by any man who in loving me it meant accepting me for who I am + being given the space/distance to embody that. Love is not possession but many think that’s where it begins & ends.

Every single day I realize a lot of us have no idea what love means outside of a desire to possess another person or have someone respond to your advances or expressions of affection exactly the way you want them to. We don’t know a love that affirms another’s agency.
