It's amazing to watch the manufactured outrage about Ilhan Omar go from "she once said something that's kind of insensitive to jewish people and apologized for it" to "she is a raving anti-semite on the same level as the literal nazis" in real time.

some puerto rican comrades have pointed out the phrase “plata o plomo” (silver or lead) isn’t really something said there. it’s a phrase associated with colombian narcos. if the people took the guns, power to them. but it could be another lie to justify crackdowns.

Fiat Chrysler wrapped up the debt of DaimlerChrysler into a shell company and discarded it like the amputated tail of a skink caught in a predator's jaws. They even called it "Old Carco" lmaooooooo

The government of Ontario fucked over postsecondary students by cutting expected OSAP grants, weeks before school starts. Then they turn around and do this.

Oh wait, i misunderstood you, sorry. The poem that became "Memory" was never in the book. The character Grizabella WAS in an unpublished poem cut out of Old Possum, but none of the words of her poem are in what became "Memory".

Not true, i'm afraid. It was never a cat poem at all; the lyrics are based largely on his "Preludes", from Prufrock and Other Observations.

In capitalist America management blames you! For their incompetence and for outright stealing your labor.

I mean, caring about the human gene pool or the survival of the species is just a different religion, another sort of hope for eternal life. What is Man, that thou art mindful of him?

I’ve said this before but I think it is important to understand the public performance of racism as a pleasurable activity. There’s lust behind these shouts to “send her back,” a violent desire they want to make real. It’s the libidinal economy at work.

and because i can already anticipate the pedantic responses to this tweet, let amend it to say "ICE is literally *the kind of thing* the framers feared"

ICE is literally the thing the framers feared when they spoke about the dangers of a "standing army."

If the WSJ is correct & this is a stock sale, not an asset sale, GateHouse should be taking on the liabilities and contracts at Gannett. This is good. But make no mistake: one way or another, the new company will see more job cuts. The only way to get protections is with a union.

In May, GateHouse laid off about 200 people in newsrooms across the country. I tracked 160 of those layoffs, and we know of 24 layoffs in Florida alone. A merger would add a dozen more FL newspapers to our chain.
