So I had a meeting with some external visitors in the office today. It was just me, so took them to the room and politely offered tea/coffee/water - thinking that like literally everyone else they'd say water or nothing.

Nope. They asked for coffee and tea. "Great, okay, I'll be right back" I said, scuttling off. Obviously, I panicked. Went to the kitchen thinking, okay I know how to make tea. So I did that. But the coffee pot had powder in it, and I had absolutely no idea what to do with it.

I pullet out slack on my phone and wrote a frantic message to my team. A guy from the ads team came to the kitchen and we had some banter, but I didn't want to ask him in front of his team and look like an idiot. Not the ads team.

So then I abandoned the tea and run up the stairs to the canteen. They'll know what to do. "Can I please have a tea and a...regular coffee?" "What's a regular coffee?" "Erm, What do most people drink?" "Some people like latte or cappuccino (etc etc)?" "Crap. Latte please."

I went back to the room with a black tea no sugar (obviously I didn't ask beforehand) and a latte hoping for the best. Thankfully they seemed satisfied enough, and I proceeded to plugin my laptop to start the meeting. Front and center for all to see:

All in all I learnt a powerful lesson yesterday: never be polite and always just go to the Seahorse.

I always ask, "do you want water, tea, or terrible coffee?"

Such wisdom in that statement. Pushing water as their first option which is most likely being picked.

Powder coffee is just 1 teaspoon and some boiling water. (If that mystery had not yet been revealed)

And that’s why every student should spend a summer in school working at a café: life skills😀
