Hello. If your deaf and hard of hearing friends ask you to repeat something, please don’t say ‘never mind’ - it suggests we don’t get to know what’s going on and can be incredibly isolating.

We want to know how well the exemptions around face coverings are understood and if people are using the cards that have been produced, so that we can demonstrate the views of our community to the Government. Please take our short survey. 👇🏿

A deaf person being able to speak doesn’t make them a “successful” deaf person. A deaf person being able to lip read doesn’t make them a “successful” deaf person. There are as many Deaf experiences as there are deaf people. We aren’t only successful when we pass as hearing.

"I’m the same person. I don’t need to hide my disability anymore.” Meet Tony. This wonderful Service Worker recently took the brave decision to trim his hair and reveal his hearing implants – for the first time - after years of hiding them out of embarrassment. ❤️

“You’re on mute!” Great fundraising idea. Every time you forget to unmute on your video calls, donate £2 to “because some people will never be able to hear what you're saying. Action Hearing Loss helps people in these situations”.

We're pleased to have worked with the Government to include some deaf awareness messaging on its disability face covering exemption badges, which you might want to use to show your needs around face coverings You can download here:

This research focusses on hearing loss that occurs with ‘normal ageing’ – which wouldn’t include sudden sensorineural hearing loss. The biology is different. However, it's likely that big advances in hearing loss research will attract investment and push forward other areas. 👍🏽

Mitochondrial hearing loss is linked to mutations in mitochondrial DNA, usually those which are present at birth, and the hearing loss caused usually develops earlier in life so isn’t age-related. This research focusses on the hearing loss that occurs with ‘normal ageing’.

Claire set up a not-for-profit company adapting toys to represent all disabilities to empower children like her four-year-old daughter, Matilda, who was born deaf. ❤️ 🦻🏾

YouTube said the feature would be discontinued after 28 September 2020, citing issues with spam and abuse. But deaf users and creators say removing the community-driven captions feature will stifle accessibility. What does this mean for you?
