The sexes of turtles are determined by temperature: the hotter the temperature, the more likely they are to be female. But in Florida, in some areas, it's too hot to even be born -- eggs are being found baked, without even a chance at life.

More baby turtle stories!! 13,400 nests were recorded in Volusia County, breaking all sorts of records for the four types of returning nesters. Fun fact: Florida is home to the world's largest population of loggerheads!

Most people in Volusia County agree: keeping the Halifax green & clean is essential. But for several years, there's been controversy on how to maintain that. There are over 100,500 septic tanks in Ormond by the Sea, & the city of OB wants to change that.

I'm so, so happy. These women work hard. They're just as smart as anyone else. They're just as brave. And there's a future for women in space. Going boldly where no woman has gone before.

Space is so, SO beautiful. I didn't choose to go that direction with my life, but seeing this -- women who DID choose to go that route, despite being the first -- it's amazing in a way I can't describe. I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes watching this.

I was friends with (women) rocket scientists who told me I could do it. One of my favorite childhood memories was staring up at the telescopes on the ceiling of the National Air and Space Museum. And still, I love space. Astronomy was my favorite college class. Stars are amazing.

As a little girl, I fell in love with space. Learning about how far away stars are and why planets and moons are named after Greek and Roman pantheons never ceased to amaze me. I grew up an hour from . I wanted to be an astronaut when I grew up. (Thread)

Disturbance in Gulf likely to become an extra tropical storm later this morning. No matter what it is, a storm surge of up to 5 feet is the threat along the immediate coast, with tropical storm force winds and rain in a swath across Georgia and through the Carolinas.
