Now that Bernie is the clear frontrunner everyone has to unite behind him or else they’re helping Trump win. Sorry, I don’t make the rules

I think it's purposefully arcane and unexplainable.

Be patient with the Iowa Caucus.
One thing I learned from studying philosophy of mathematics is that it is almost impossible to count things up if there are more than 2 or 3 thousand of them, which explains their trouble.

today on aaron is a great programmer who only writes great programs: variable shadowing is hard and now I wish that I had sweet, sweet DrRacket-style binding arrows in my emacs setup

come to think of it, I think our numbers actually came from a litte booklet where we ripped half off for the voter to give at the booth and kept the other half so that we had a record of what voters were given out, but our ballot definitely was unnumbered

and the ballot itself has a unique identifier on it when it’s stored in the safe? that’s honestly kinda scary
ours were definitely scanned and stored in a lockbox, but again, no number. the number was in a publicly visible pile with the needle through them

the part of the ballot that had the number on it was ripped off and has a needle pushed through it, which is where we got the sequence of votes that were counted. if I’m remembering correctly, there was no other id number on the ballot itself.

I worked as a poll worker in New Jersey and while we had a system roughly like this, you actually could not associate the actual vote with the voter. It was set up so that you could know who voted, in what order, and have proof that someone’s vote counted, but no idea the vote.

somewhat related: I don't know where the post is anymore, but I know that for CHI, people looked at the effect of writing rebuttals and found that writing a rebuttal had no or worsening effects on reviewer scores and acceptances
