They’ll have to get through you and me first. If you all keep listening in standard podcast apps that use the open, RSS-backed podcast ecosystem instead of proprietary walled gardens, nobody can ruin what we have. It’s up to all of us to support and defend open podcasting.

Here's one history lesson of what could well be in store for Facebook and Google: Years of crippling privacy lawsuits, which finally get rolled up in a "global settlement agreement" that extracts hundreds of billions in damages.

"Facebook is paradoxically arguing that privacy itself has no price, even in cases where it’s this precise lack of privacy that allows it to turn a profit". Profits are greater when you don't have to pay for the merchandise you sell.

This really is a monumental breakthrough in legal protections for privacy. Establishing that the abuse is the collection itself, without full, informed, and uncoerced consent. No wonder Facebook is lobbying hard to avoid this.

Och det lär fortsätta så länge de som köper in konsulterna kan ännu mindre om verksamheten eller framförallt ledarskap. De som gör jobbet är de som kan förändra, våga låta de göra det.
