Reminds me of when I was in college—spent an entire frat party reading the books in their living room, because it was too loud to talk to anyone and I felt creepy standing in a corner clutching a red cup. Don't recall the books but I remember being surprised these guys had them.

Outline for a speech balloon design. Original plan was to unify/subtract the various shapes in Illustrator to form the final image, but the setup looks kind of cool just as a semi-abstract shape.

I'm a little surprised they didn't just skip right to 6.6.7, same way a lot of buildings don't have a thirteenth floor. Honestly, I'm never as superstitious as when I'm dealing with layers of systems that I need to get working.

Wondering if it's a bad sign that—on this most hallowed of days—I just updated one of my WordPress plugins to version 6.6.6.

I came here specifically to say that. Damn—of course someone else got to it first.

This has some of the best example-use graphics I've seen on futurefonts. Love that bitmap typewriter–so nice.

(I'll admit the one from the 60s came *close* to being a sitcom, but it didn't end there.)

My dad complains about referencing Star Trek in his physics classes—he's a college professor—and the kids just stare at him blankly and don't get it. This always stuns me. Star Trek wasn't some fading 70s sitcom—I thought everyone knew about it! Especially physics students!

Ugh. Reminds me of American conservatives who make similar arguments about modesty—and then, five minutes later, point to headscarves as an example of repressive Islamic mores. A free society means—among other things—not being limited by someone else's notions of "modesty".

Agreed. Tech culture's priesthood-elitism really irritates me—the contempt for anything beyond functionality, knowledge, and pragmatism. It's like human qualities are classified as bugs. And I've defnitly noticed a difference between design/dev types online—visual ppl are nicer.

I don't get it. They think…Apple enthusiasm is overblown? Appreciation of good design is preciousness? Anyone who'd prefer a nice UI to a config file is a loser? It's a weird, almost pathological response—as gut-level emotional as the Apple worship that drives them nuts.

There is something about the devotion of Apple's customers that makes people who don't get it froth with contempt. Nicas's reaction isn't even particularly extreme compared to some of the chest-thumping I've seen from Android/Linux bros railing about cults and "sheeple".

I *thought* I saw a QuickTake reference in one of the liveblogs. It's always kind of interesting when Apple re-uses trade names—anyone remember when "Cocoa" was a multimedia app for kids?

Wonder if they're concerned about people looking a little more closely at the good Colonel's history. He wasn't exactly the Santa Claus of fast food he's portrayed as—more an itinerant badass who brawled, wandered, and was once involved in a lethal gunbattle with a competitor.

Maybe it's time for an -style "Cupertino, start your photocopiers" banner. (For a little context: )

It's funny how camera quality is the primary thing I take into account when buying a phone these days. It's one of the major—perhaps only—things I do with the phone. I don't game, and I don't make a lot of calls. Like 80% of the time I pull the phone out, it's to take a picture.

Camera sounds insane. (Granted, it's a product launch so they're hyping this to the max—but they couldn't call it "Deep Fusion" if it wasn't groundbreaking, right?)
