Something has been bothering me about this statement: How did the White House know that the Times was planning to use the audio in a podcast in the first place? Why would the paper tell the White House that in advance -- why not just use it and have them complain later?

The Trump administration's hardline immigration policies are premised on two notions: A) that illegal immigrants are flooding our borders and B) that they are a public safety risk. Neither one of those propositions is remotely true.
