Obviously there's no bright line number of seconds required. But 39 seconds is barely enough to swear in a witness. How could a grand jury possibly be convinced of anything in that time?

lol :) There's a background check, but even that hasn't been properly done sometimes. TSA screeners have been jailed for every crime in the book, from murder to rape to drug snuggling to child pornography. Training is 8 days to be a TSO.

Still the right decision by SCOTUS, however -- a criminal defendant should have the right to prevent his or her attorney from offering any admission. The attorney probably made a good tactical move, but it's the client's life on the line and he makes the call.

That's not what happened. The lawyer told the jury the man killed people, but that he was NOT GUILTY because he lacked the requisite mental state. Get your law straight.
