2/2 If we limit the analysis to Whites, the answer is Democrats, whose liberalism increased 0.91 points (as compared to +0.68 conservatism for White Republicans) between 1972-2016.

"Liberal" is the wrong word to describe the Democrats, who are committed to the ideology of post-racial multiculturalism & , which is about as liberal as medieval church ideology was, & serves the same power-political purpose.
