FGO Babylonia seems like a great showcase of what high profile projects can get you. Not necessarily outstanding animation (which this show will have in spades) but the possibility to have action that feels consistently Big, set in a world that's similarly vast yet densely packed

It's not just physical scale - some series have rooms with more thought put into them than many uninspired wastelands elsewhere. Putting together a setting that's diverse regardless of that scope and making it feel believably inhabited is a herculean task since pre-production

Which is why it's usually prohibitive... unless you're blessed with special projects like this, with ample funding and a whole lot of time for the staff. TV anime excels at making the best out of next to nothing, but there's a reason this kind of thing is a rarity.

For that one shot of the city? Both backgrounds and mobs are CGi there

Oshima seems to be a very conscious pick seeing that PV. Really hoping for the show to exceed our expectations, as high as it is currently.

I'm confident it'll be technically accomplished, full of fancy animation by the best people in the business. Still think it has a clear ceiling otherwise but I'll be surprised if I don't enjoy it

My expectations are so high that I'm greedily expecting big surprises now (kinda like how Mob II #05 and #11 were amazing, even beyond the show's already high standard)

I feel like Bones was a specialist of shows like these for a time? When I'm watching Space Dandy or BBB I always felt like the world was "alive", and not just a bunch of randomly generated sprites that don't really fit the mood or the style

If you're going to point at studios there's one that stands atop the rest when it comes to having a well-defined sense of place and creating the illusion that the world exists beyond the camera. BONES have been pretty damn good at it tho, especially in their original works!

What I'm excited about is the translation. Not the subs, but the scene and world. FGO players only saw Babylonia in a flat plane, with some static "depth" background. Here, we will be seeing a live world, with real depth, dynamic and almost real world feel. Can't wait!

Incredibly excited for Babylonia. Expectations are high but I'm positive it will deliver on every aspect. What a blessed production.
