So everyone likely have seen or heard about this little tease earlier today about the edit capability for Tweets in a tweet from Twitter. If it does come hopefully it will be well implemented. 1/

First of course - edited tweets need to be marked as "Edited" along with the time it was edited. Also - no more than one edit per tweet. Fix all those mistakes the first time otherwise - live with it. 2/

Second - some type of "window" needs to observed that once that timeframe has passed - no edits are possible. Not sure what this would ideally be but I would have to say no more than 15 minutes or so. This would allow most errors to be easily fixed quickly. 3/

Third - I know we get a lot of notices in our Twitter timeline but it would probably not be a bad idea to pop an alert/notice in the timeline to indicate a tweet was updated/changed/edited. 4/

Fourth - Even now we can delete tweets so that does not go away and the ability to attempt removing a tweet from your timeline that you might not be proud of i.e. "nothing disappears from the Internet" is still in tact as is just removing a tweet and starting over. 5/

Ultimately, the biggest benefit of the ability to edit tweets is really going to be about fixing simple/silly errors that are made when composing tweets, auto-correct goofs and the like. The historical aspect of tweets remain in place. 6/End
