Hundreds of local people turned out to attend the funeral of a Second World War veteran in Southend today, after he died at the age of 94 with no friends or family to attend. Leonard John King "Jason" served in the RAF, No.23 Squadron.

Today marks the 100th anniversary of Walter Tull's death. Walter was one of the first professional black footballers playing as a forward for Tottenham, but is most famous for being the first Black Officer in the British Army. 👏

A burial service has today been held at the ’s Orchard Dump Cemetery, France for an Unknown Soldier of the Durham Light Infantry & an Unknown Soldier of the Bedfordshire Regiment - both KIA during the First World War. Read more, here:
