It’s a sad state of affairs when a species like house sparrow has gone from being so numerous nobody bothered to count them, to a point where they make this type of list. Unfortunately a certainty not to be on my list this year. None in the locality.

Forests don’t need to be - and shouldn’t be- carpets of monocultures as described by on paper review of opinion piece. Native woods and trees will provide habitats for declining nature, capture carbon, clean our air, protect soils and more.
