6/7 We have already reduced the threat of injury to North Atlantic right whales by up to 90% by introducing a seasonal reduced ship speed limit along US east coast - if we can do it there, we can do it everywhere... but there's still so much more to be done.

5/7 We are constantly working with international bodies to reduce ship strikes all around the world, especially in those areas where whales and dolphins are particularly vulnerable.

4/7 Again and again, the same thing happens. Innocent whales and dolphins killed by ships and boats in the most needless ways. We are sick of it! What makes this so much worse is the fact that ship strikes aren't a necessary evil - they can be avoided!

3/7 In June, the body of a blue whale washed ashore on Point Reyes National Seashore. Blue whales are the biggest creatures on earth - yet even they are not safe from the danger posed by ship strikes, as the necropsy found injuries consistent with deaths of that kind.

1/7 On Friday, a humpback narrowly avoided what could have been a fatal collision in San Francisco Bay. We are pleased to report that it managed to escape with its life - but many other whales and dolphins aren't so fortunate.

On Tuesday night a young minke whale tragically died after stranding on a shore of the Inner Moray Firth. Our field officer, saw "it was in very shallow water, thrashing around" but despite joint efforts with , nothing could be done.

Finally! Good news! said it will recycle as many disposable cups as it sells by 2020. We have to encourage increased recycling rates and ideally also actual recycling of items rather than down-cycling!
