Thank god for respiratory therapists. There hasn’t been a single covid ICU survivor that has survived without the dedication, sweat and courage of a respiratory therapist.

People who spend the most time with covid patients (RTs like you, ICU nurses, nursing and home caregivers) are rarely given a platform. That needs to change. Your opinions matter more than most arm chair experts who barely, if ever, care for patients. I appreciate you.

This is an example of the 100s of messages I receive weekly, people scared, desperate for accurate information. Americans deserve better than public health officials seeking their own glory over service to country.

The American people deserve the opposite of the silence (and complicity) of our current public health β€œleaders” Rank order (by degree of dereliction of duty): 1. .... 2. 3. cc:

I want to live in a country where the Chief of ID or a peer institution is guiding key federal messaging on this topic. Hopefully soon.

Given continued federal messaging shenanigans, here’s are more highly respected public health experts to follow: (Great source for lung health info)

Perhaps people who know what they’re talking about (pulmonologists, ICU providers) should be guiding federal messaging on this issue, not docs like who’ve long lost their way

I’ve just had it with everything. My teacher husband is with hundreds of HS kids each day in a freaking homemade mask (a very nice, three-layer one my lovely seamstress aunt made him), but still... My kindergartener is in hybrid learning, attending two days a week.(1)

In late January, a US mask company offered to start making an additional 1.7 million N95 masks per week. Our government declined the offer. Many health care workers died because they didn't have those N95s. Our teachers need them too.

Our country is capable of protecting everyone with the right type of masks. If ICU docs, nurses, and RTs get well fitting N95s for long shifts, so should teachers. So should anyone exposed to suffocating smog and covid. Anyone that wants one should have access to one.

Very haunting listening now to the bells at Washington National Cathedral tolling for the 200,000 killed by the coronavirus in the United States.
