NEW: Dems are calling for an investigation into how 3 Mar-a-Lago buddies have been shaping policy and personnel at the VA. Our story revealed that VA officials treated their directives as orders and those who didn’t get along were sidelined or removed.

That's why I am requesting hand over all communications between VA officials and the three reported “shadow rulers” of VA. I am also asking VA to hand over all records of official VA travel to Mar-a-Lago.

If these revelations prove true, then VA is being secretly run from the shadows of Mar-a-Lago by men with no accountability to taxpayers and who have never served in the United States military or government. This is textbook corruption and cronyism.

Accountability & transparency matter, that’s why it’s beyond unacceptable for an Acting Secretary to mislead or keep information from Congress. For that reason, I sent a letter to demanding an immediate investigation.

Veterans and their families deserve a VA Secretary who will lead the department with integrity, stand up against VA privatization, and fight tirelessly to improve their lives, including the lives of our many LGBTQ+ veterans. I look forward to holding Mr. Wilkie to that standard.

That's why we are urging the Office of Special Counsel to investigate whether Acting Secretary O’Rourke or any other VA employee violated the Hatch Act or other Title 5 prohibitions against removing, demoting, or reassigning employees for political reasons

Not only would it be morally reprehensible for Acting Secretary O’Rourke to use his temporary status to reshape the VA workforce for partisan gain, it could also constitute a violation of federal law.

That’s why I immediately called on Acting Secretary O’Rourke to comply with investigation after he made an unprecedented attempt to stonewall and intimidate the VA Inspector General. Under no circumstance should such behavior be tolerated.

As Inspectors General turn 40, we reflect on the important role they play in holding our government accountable to the American people. In the era of Trump, the independence of Inspectors General is more important than ever.

Job training is essential to ensuring our service members land on their feet when they return home to their families and communities. Making it easier for all veterans, no matter when they served, to access job training is an important part of keeping our economy strong.

The Job TOOLS for Veterans Act would allow for veterans of all eras to become eligible for the Dept. of Labor’s Transition Assistance Program (TAP), which was established to help service members transition into civilian life with job search information & training information.
