^ 1. “Main” is shorter! Yay brevity! 2. It’s even easier to remember, tbh 3. If it makes any of my teammates feel an ounce more comfortable, let’s do it! 4. If it prevents even a single black person from feeling more isolated in the tech community, feels like a no brainer to me!

Github need to also enable indexing for main branches, it's disabled by default. Moving to main (the right thing to do) will mean that every project suddenly becomes unsearchable.
-
Doesn't Github just index whatever the default branch is set in project settings?

This is the 2nd reference I’ve seen of moving away from master branch. Why is this case? Some new pattern developed? Any links about why would be interesting to read, thanks!

As far as i can see, some
@github projects started to rename "master" to "trunk" https://github.com/cli/cli/releases/tag/v0.10.0-pre0 …Danke! Twitter wird dies nutzen, um deine Timeline zu verbessern. Rückgängig machenRückgängig machen

Personally I like “trunk” because it makes the systems metaphor consistent and explaining trees is much easier than explaining git.

Thank you for making me aware that "trunk" is a Teekesselchen and has a third meaning besides the rear part of a car or the front of an elephant!
As a non-native speaker I guess "main branch" would have made sense to me thanks to main entry point, main navigation, etc. - Antworten anzeigen
