They're interplanetary ships. Not interstellar. Interstellar is an entirely different thing from interplanetary.

One of the things I like best about the RimWorld lore: it properly accounts for the difficulty of maintaining cohesion over huge distances.

Still, a spaceship/helicopter/whatever at the end game that allows you to freely move on the planet, land anywhere etc... would be awesome!
