No shortage of happy faces this morning as The Life Guards arrived to change the Queen’s Life Guard at Horse Guards. In a few weeks time their comrades in Windsor will be off to Oman for Exercise Saif Sareea 3 Training with allies to fight future foes.

Yesterday I came across the story of Karl Schauenberg. As a child he was conscripted into the Wehrmacht in WWII’s last days. He later came to Britain and joined the Grenadier Guards band. From his first day on parade until retirement he wore an Iron Cross won for bravery in 1945.
