Apparently SEGA Japan has done some restructuring again, via Sam Mullen: There's now on 2 CS studios, CS1 (Yakuza Studio, and now the Valkyria guys) and CS2 for the rest. My understanding of this is that Sonic Team as we knew it isn't really a thing now
This just reminds me of how painful it is to look at Sega when I remember what once was. Painful..? Hmmm...I feel pretty good looking at their console/handheld line-up and their arcade line up at...

(Reposted because saying "Sonic Team is dead" was a bit more sensationalised than I intended lol)

Once again I feel the need to stress that right now this is just symbolic of Sonic’s reduced priority within SoJ more than anything. There’s no mention of layoffs or anything, the same team that brought us Forces is prolly still there, just within CS2. Possibly still doing Sonic

There are certainly things to suggest Sonic is moving towards being an SoA gig - but it’s nothing more concrete on that front than we had a week or month ago. As far as this goes, it more just an “end of an era” thing in terms of Sonic no longer having its own studio to itself

This also explains that article about a new CS2 SEGA IP the other day - it's not that Sonic Team are making a new IP, it's just Sonic Team are now just collapsed alongside every other SEGA IP besides Yakuza Also explains why it said CS2 was doing Sakura Wars

Yeah, was about to say this Seen it floated that what we already knew in addition to financial reports suggest Sonic is becoming more of a SEGA of America gig regardless, which probably explains collapsing Sonic Team

Wait... Could this mean, the supposed Sonic Team got bigger?

It more suggests to me that Sonic Team is now just collapsed alongside all of the other SEGA IP dev besides Yakuza, giving it less significance. It's unlikely they'll dedicate the whole CS2 unit to Sonic (in fact we already know they're handling Shin Sakura Taisen)
