Hey! New Horizons is so far away that Proxima Cen shifts by 32 arcsec and Wolf 359 by 16, and we're going to show that by taking images of their fields on April 22-23 and comparing them to simultaneous Earth-based images.

Both stars can be imaged by amateurs with 6" telescopes or so and an electronic camera. Off the main page we give times to observe to have 1s simultaneity (in the star's frame) with NH. WIth Brian May's help we can make real 3D images with the close stars popping out.

This is the first ever demo of parallax with the stellar PSFs HWFM << parallax and simultaneous measures at both ends of the baseline, no proper motion corrections needed. The parallax displacements will be big and obvious

And with two stars, we can do navigation of NH (well crudely). This will take stellar navigation into the interstellar regime.

That happened in the future, so not yet.

That’s pretty amazing! How accurately can you centroid a star?

We’ve been able to do 1%, but the pixels are 4”. We still can’t get anywhere near Gaia.

OK, this sounds like a good reason to dig out the telescope my wife gave me as an anniversary gift one year, and relearn using it.
