.@SenAlexander's position acknowledges Trump's corruption while helping to carry Trump's coverup of that corruption to completion. It's a betrayal. It leaves the country exposed and adrift, in the dark about what Trump is prepared to inflict on us.

.@SenAlexander's craven surrender to Trump leaves our country exposed. He tells us our only mechanism of accountability is the election, while admitting Trump is guilty of trying to corrupt that election, and letting him skate without a full accounting.

Trump's stance isn't really that his conduct was justifiable. That's irrelevant to him. It's that he did nothing for which he should be held accountable.
With this validated, there's zero doubt he'll now wield the government against rivals in worse ways.

* Trump says his extortion of Ukraine was "perfect"
* Trump said in media's faces Ukraine must investigate Bidens
* Trump solicited more foreign interference on national TV
* Rudy kept up Ukraine scheme during Trump's impeachment
Now Trump is unbound:

The most dangerous part of this is that the GOP has clearly & repeatedly withheld information from their voters and lied to them about trump’s election being tainted by phony Russian trumpers on social media. They’ve covered everything. They’ll stop nowhere.

This is what I keep saying - uh, screaming, actually:
The problem isn't t Rump. It's the entire Republican party. Because none of this could have happened without the constant, relentless aiding and abetting him by the GOP.

The methodical dismantling and impending Death of Democracy that the @GOP is authoring will soon mirror their authoritarian fascistic world view. Their lawlessness will only empower their minions and endanger all who hold freedom dear.

“What Alexander fails to acknowledge is that Trump’s own conduct was both an effort to solicit foreign help in rigging that very election and a clear sign Trump believes it’s absolutely within his authority to continue using his official powers to do just that.”

He will be insufferable and they will be impotent to do anything. Like now only worse. He doesn't need them anymore so he will beat up on them mercilessly. They can't help us if they even wanted to. This is why Obama turned grey overnight. He sid between them, and us.

He can still be indicted, tried, convicted, imprisoned and fined after he is defeated and out of office though, right? How about his abettors?
