Indeed, same w LA and NY — we lost a lot of good ones. Amazon killed many. But readers and stores rallied so turned back tide in ways other fields hurt by digital (newspapers, music) were not able to

The fate of print/ print books was a central concern of my book Culture Crash, so glad to see a typically excellent col declaring the battle won. Worth adding: Books and indie bookstores survived the crash largely bc people fought to save them.

Have gone to more than 2,000 rock gigs over last 25 years-- it's part of what I do for a living. Never been thrown out. Tonight the guards at the thought carrying a plastic water bottle & asking why they ripped it out of my hands was a deal-breaker. Macho gone wild

Went to tonight to see Lemonheads. Terrorist that I am, was drinking from plastic bottle of water. Security guard ripped it out of my hands, and double-teamed me w burly friend when I told him he was rude. Kicked me out for being an uppity boy. Fuck them

Ha. Greenspan was too caught up in his Ayn Rand virtue-of-selfishness fantasies to do anything about the crash. Lots of us -- including people like me who lost our jobs and houses -- wish someone like Warren had been in office and not lazy rich- boy Dubya. But GOP loved him

Smart piece, glad to see Wilkinson has grown out of his adolescent Ayn Randism. But a lot of this is stuff liberals have been saying for decades.

Beckett's >Happy Days< at last night was insanely good. Funniest damn thing I've seen in ages. Don't expect Richie and the Fonz -- this is Diane Wiest's show

"For Trump, this toughness — this willingness to act cruelly and brutally — is a virtue. That’s especially true when the targets are racial others," writes in today's NYT

I'm not surprised supposed intellectuals on the Right are still using phrases like "Commies." Our president gets all hot and bothered w a former KGB chief who hacked US election, and the REAL threat to America is women drawing attention to class and corporate money? Pathetic
