There has been a lot of irritation by Brexit party MEPs that their new workplace provides them with computers and staff. Quite apart from this being the case for UK MPs as well, the alternative is a system in which only rich people can afford to be representatives. An oligarchy.

I’m concerned that “natal” is offensive. Not least because many trans folk would argue that they were the gender they are from birth. I think it’s about power. Trans people are the most powerless here. So they deserve our care and respect.

As the aunt of one enby and one trans nibling, I appreciate when people think about gender and don’t make assumptions

Interesting. I was trying to find out whether the voting is a secret ballot and what other rules are set down about the procedure. This is remarkably opaque for something of constitutional nature.

Really important to move beyond the language of metaphors to what Brexit actually entails

I’m almost reluctant to post this on here ... perhaps because there has been such push-back against academics showing off about successes. I am delighted and honoured to be recognised this way for my work, which of course I cannot do alone. Thank you &

MPs have to do more than simply stop Parliament from being prorogued to stop No Deal Brexit. They would have to legislate to require PM to seek a further extension until a deal could be approved. All of which still leave elephant in the room. What is the deal MPs will approve?

Let’s make a deal: as you are an MEP now, let’s explore and compare these issues with the U.K. (alternatively you could just do cheap propaganda, but would you want that to be your life’s goal?). So let me start on ‘the EU’s not interested in reforming’ (thread)

Just to add to what has already said, the bigger picture is about how NHS is framed: expensive drugs in US are cheaper in European contexts because solidarity settlements are totally different in European contexts. If we lose the framing, all sorts of dangers.
