Perhaps the plan all along was to do a thing so egregious that, when you stop doing it, you still get to do what you wanted to do all along. Detain entire families. Indefinitely. In camps. And call it humane.

Protests and actions are being planned for a month from now. I want this to stop NOW. TODAY. I can’t wait a month. I can’t accept it one more day. I honestly thought there’s no way it goes on by the end of the week. Not once everyone has read the articles & seen the photos.

The toxic stress these children are enduring because of this policy has lifelong consequences. It literally alters the architecture of the brain and can reduce life expectancy by *20 years.*

Today is Juneteenth, otherwise known as America's second Independence Day. And there's no better time to remember what it means to be free, as the last of the enslaved people, often robbed of their children, finally learned they were on this day in 1865.

It’s Juneteenth. And there are children locked in cages, stripped from their families. I don’t know if it’s the irony, ire, or iron of America that angers me most.

Immigrating to a new country is an act of hope and bravery. Some of the most patriotic, hardworking, brilliant and compassionate people I know are immigrants. America is a better country for having them in it.

I’m begging you. If you are old enough to vote this year, PLEASE. REGISTER. AND. VOTE. And sign up your friends. This administration’s cruelty knows no bottom.

UPDATE: The entire Democratic caucus supports our bill to bar children from being taken from their parents at the border. I’ve heard countless Republicans say that they oppose children being taken from their parents. If that’s true, they should support our bill NOW!

Evil. There is no other word for it but that. How we act right now, matters, what we do right now, will show the world who we are. Who are we? Are we the good Germans? Or are we-- and I desperately hope we are -- still American?
