On April 15, 2019, work began to remove fuel from Unit 3 spent fuel pool of Fukushima Daiichi NPS for the first time since the 2011 accident. Unit 3 spent fuel pool holds 566 fuel assemblies in total, and the work is expected to be completed by March 2021.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe visited Fukushima Daiichi. After being given a tour the Prime Minister presented letters of gratitude to contractor employees, and said, “Let’s continue to work together until we have enabled Fukushima to completely recover.”

The internal investigation of the Unit 2 PCV of Fukushima Daiichi conducted today (Feb. 13th) was completed as scheduled. No significant fluctuations in the concentration of radioactive substances in dust were seen during the investigation and there was no impact on the outside.
