Ce cadre du au menace de chasser les opposants en les faisant passer par le lac Tanganyika!! Un discours qui rappelle celui de Leon Mugesera au en 1992 qui parlait de faire passer les Tutsis et les opposants par la rivière Nyabarongo.

Sad thing is these speeches have become so frequent & spread out, that ppl are becoming desensitized to them. Even I have to remind myself not to roll my eyes from the idiocy. I have to remember that they can be, as you point out, the precursor of evil when all hell breaks loose.

We take some things lightly but one thing we should learn from Rwanda is whatever comes from a person so is the person. We must not be surprised when they start delivering their plans! In fact they started( )

Exactly right. They are telling us. Not even being subtle about it. We should listen and take it seriously.

In the pre-genocide Rwanda, it was indeed a common mistake to play down such threats. People made light of the many threats in the same speech of Leon Mugesera where he also advised families whose children had joined Inkotanyi to leave Rwanda & join them before it was too late.

Est ce que vous êtes sûrs de ce que vous présentez? Pourquoi voulez vous dramatiser toute situations comme si les Tutsi ne sont pas des Burundais qui sont au pouvoir à 40% selon la constitution?

You’re right. A relative who used to live in Rwanda pre-genocide used to refer to Interahamwe as “ibirobezo” (ie thuggish youth) and did not take them seriously at all. It always reminds me of this passage of Immaculée Ilibagiza’s Left to Tell book.

Another thing rewatching that clip. One of the things that always dismay me is the tendency to submit to “Abategetsi”. We’re taught to never question them, to swallow what these “Big Men” tell us. Those rural folks might not even believe that bile but they have to clap & co-sign.
