I've been in IT professionally for 10 years, and I honestly couldn't tell you what IBM actually does. I'm not being facetious. I don't know.

What is Watson? Is it a computer? Is it a protocol? Is it a nosql database? A search algorithm? I really don't know.

Google processes information. Amazon makes extensible services. Microsoft is moving business to the cloud. What does IBM do? I don't know.

How many advertisements have I seen from IBM in my life? Maybe hundreds? I've seen three from Amazon. And I have no idea what IBM does.

I know some of IBM's nominal products, but I don't know why - the existential question. Does IBM have a purpose? What does IBM _do_?

Halliburton and KPMG have better public understanding of their business proposition than IBM, whose communications have failed for a decade.

Note - none of this is about IBM products or non-leadership employees at all. Just exacerbated they blow so much money to advertise nothing.
