When will you start acknowledging that Federal debt is not actually a problem? Even Republicans understand this (though they pretend otherwise), as demonstrated by their enthusiasm for debt-expanding tax cuts and massive military deficit-spending under every GOP president.

If you’re this President, you really don’t care. Stirring up outrage among the left wing “fake news” might even be an added benefit, especially since it will help you pretend to be the victim here, for your trusted alt-right “news” base to rush to your defense.

I shake my head every time I hear Ron Johnson mentioned, wondering how the good people of Wisconsin elected him over Russ Feingold. Twice. I hold them fully accountable for every despicable thing he says and does.

we can see bright red emergency flares being launched over the Bay right now, all the way up here in the Berkeley Hills. I thought it might be someone in real distress, so I called the police. Turns out, it’s Coast Guard flare training off San Rafael.

The US Coast Guard is currently doing flare training right now near San Rafael. They’re visible across the Bay, seen here from the Berkeley Hills.

if you get inquiries about the emergency flares being launched right now across the Bay, no need to call the police (I already did). It’s apparently Coast Guard flare training night near San Rafael.

This is why "stimulus" is called "stimulus". When you give money to people who don't have much, they spend it. That "stimulates" the economy.

At least he acknowledged that much of the progress he promised but never delivered was, in fact, always just lip service.

This thread is on Wray’s article arguing taxes have never been used for spending, incl Colonial docs suggesting taxes didn’t pay for spending pre-1776. My question (still unanswered) is: how can that be true if the Constitution was written to sound like taxes WERE for spending?

Please clarify that the proposed "No Stimulus compromise" will not in any way reduce 4 of the 5 catastrophes you just warned we're facing in the next month.

It's not a "stimulus compromise" if it includes "NO stimulus." What part of that is confusing to people? Also, any federal bill measured in instead of is trivial and vastly insufficient for the overall economic relief individuals, small businesses and states need.

I'm just asking for clarity. If our nation wasn't founded with an understanding that fits current MMT, nor with documents / decisions following/supporting it, we shouldn't pretend otherwise. And if there are constitutional limits that apply to MMT, we should be wary of those.

Is it digital blackface when I (a white educator) use memes that have black celebrities in curricula for my entirely non-white students? I’m not pretending the memes represent me, I’m trying to let my student see themselves in the work.

Too late. Uber/Lyft/etc have figured out how to buy the state rules they want. Only federal regulation or legislation can help, and even those are probably within Uber/Lyft’s price range.

OK. Again, that suggests the federal govt DID need taxes for spending at its inception, which contradicts Wray's article that started this thread. If MMT didn't apply in the US when the Constitution was written, why would an MMT economist argue it did? More clarity would help.

The why does Art. 1, Sec. 8 of the US Constitution make it sound like taxes WERE for spending? And why isn’t there anything else in the constitution that says or even hints otherwise?

I was angry when she endorsed Harris, but decided she was just lending support for a long-time personal friend, neighbor and fellow black female Congressional Dem. I take this endorsement as an olive branch before she is potentially appointed herself to work alongside Tanden.
