In 2012, the villagers of Talabira village in Odisha suddenly came to know that they didn't have any rights over their land. The villagers allege that they came across a forged Gram Sabha resolution indicating diversion of the forest land where they have lived for decades

However, the villagers by a Gram Sabha resolution in 2015 rejected this fallacious resolution and claimed their lands under FRA, 2006 to which they have not got any response till date

Felling of and opening of forests to coal mines in Talabira will lead to eviction and dispossession of forest dwellers as their claims are pending. This is against the Supreme Court order asking that no forest dwellers should be evicted and all their claims be reviewed

Tree cutting has continued unabated in , despite outrage. Reportedly thousands of trees have already been cut. More than 40 machines have been used. Asking on a humanitarian ground, why are we allowing this to happen?

NGT heard case However, the order that it passed may not have any real implications for the people. It 1 Asks DFO to submit report on "factual aspect & action taken" reg reported 40k trees felled as agnst 'permissible' 17k 2 Prohibits further tree felling

1 However, the forest authorities already claim that 'merely' 17k trees were felled, as I had reported earlier: 2 Tree felling had already stopped NGT should apply more thought on how to preserve this community managed forest
