An epic advent calendar on the bookshelf in my office, thanks to . She hand selected from local Toronto shops. With photos of Nolan from the year - Day 1, our last group outing to a brewery days before lockdown in March.

We've seen a lot of pastry action in the city in 2020. Group of chef popups at cafes, and then a surprising no. of new French(and ish) bakeries; Bonne Nouvelle, Marvelous by Fred, Nord Lyon, Geste, Hazukido, Bomou, and 4 more opening in next month. Croissant obsession—third wave.

TO chef Jill Barber — ran the pastry program at Blackbird Baking Co, also Paradise on Bloor, has finally opened a shop (859 College). Running solo so small selection; Chaussons aux Pommes, pot pie, cookies. The real star is the sausage roll — super flaky pastry, wonderfully rich

People are always asking me where to get the good Portuguese conservas here and I usually don’t have an answer but I can now tell you it’s ! (obvs pricier than buying in Portugal which is why I always bring home a small suitcase of them)

The rolled saheena IS fantastic at Scarborough's must stop ACR Hot Roti & Doubles (Midland/Lawrence). No one does it better in the GTA imo.

I am loyal to Kimchi Korea House. Bay and Dundas. The best varieties of kimchi in this town and beyond. I am hooked on mama Lee’s Oi Sobagi kimchi.

Distracting you from today’s news. There’s a wonderful woman named Meena, who used to host cooking classes, now dishing out some incredible North Indian vegetarian food to go, in the west end of the city. This week - cholay bhature, peas pilau, kachumber, some naan.

During our last trip to Lisbon we visited a local ceramics shop, beautiful pieces and they were incredibly well priced. Brought back 32 pieces, 2 lost in transit. Use them everyday

known as roosht. chicken is marinated (yoghurt), then pan fried before masala'd, so it has a distinct taste. Cooked for an hour so it really has this rendang quality, not watery, the sauce sticks to the chicken. fuckingomgggggg

Great idea, the "401" tour. I find that the best Gujarati places in the GTA are interestingly enough, quite close to the highway. Weird. but its true. Hop on hop off. Scarborough - Etobicoke - Mississauga - Brampton (almost 401) I'd love to do that, spring fingers crossed

Japanese curry is not stinky come on. I dont really have a current answer here, but recently i'd say Caribbean guavas (pink flesh). If you forget them on the counter, within 2 days they're pretty pungent. But oh so delicious.

ANYWAY. Toronto is lucky to finally have a few decent BBQ spots that you can support, including Beach Hill Smokehouse, which is Black owned *and* absolutely delicious
