After 13 springs here, my first ever calling Cuckoo (John Lister-Kaye heard one in May 2015) from my garden. Finally tracked it down almost half a mile away. My neighbour says cuckoos "used to drive him mad" with their incessant calling. So sad they have declined so much.

Great to see the Guardian ditching “biodiversity” and using wildlife instead. Though I would have been just as happy with nature.

There are plenty of alternatives on the market. Peatlands everywhere need protecting - as massive carbon stores, as homes for wildlife, as historical archives and as great boggy wildernesses.
