These sanctions show the United States' steadfast commitment to promoting the human rights of Uyghurs and other Muslims in Xinjiang. I will continue working with our partners to press the Chinese Communist Party to cease its grave violations of freedom of religion or belief.

UNSC VTC: cross-border humanitarian aid delivery to NW Syria will continue at Bab al-Hawa for another year. But Russia & China’s veto of two draft resolutions that deny access at Bab al-Salaam leaves millions of Syrians vulnerable and aid delivery more expensive & less safe.

Today we continue our campaign of sanctions designed to force Bashar al-Assad and his regime to cease their brutal war against the Syrian people and implement the political solution called for by UNSCR 2254. This is the only credible path to the peace the Syrian people deserve.

UNSC: A month ago, U.S. & partner forces off the coast of Yemen interdicted a vessel containing Iranian arms bound for the Houthis: rifles; surface-to-air, land-attack & anti-tank missiles; plus other advanced weapons. Iran's efforts to arm the Houthis only prolongs the conflict.

The Syrian people want and deserve a government that is respectful of and responsive to its citizens. We must see real progress and negotiations on Resolution 2254 to advance and fully implement the stalled political process to end the conflict in Syria.

We must prioritize the pursuit of peace for a better future for Israelis & Palestinians and the entire region. This Council must call on both sides to have the hard conversations and make the difficult decisions that will bring them closer to that peace.

The Assad regime carried out rigged parliamentary elections yesterday and the vote was neither free nor fair. Syrians and the world aren't fooled by this latest example of Assad’s corruption and repression. UNSCR 2254 offers the only credible path to peace.

Dialogue-at-all-costs diplomacy does not work—it never has, and it never will. The CCP's unilateral aggression, intellectual property thievery, and broken promises on their actions in the South China Sea prove that. .

Millions of people suffer extreme forms of deprivation under harsh authoritarian regimes such as China, Iran, and Russia. The Commission on Report reminds us of the urgent need for the U.S. to champion human rights in our foreign policy.
