Rory Best at last giving the Irish fans something to cheer. What a career, what a credit to the jersey, and what a period of Irish rugby he’s helped push through. Crushing that it looked far from that today, but hats off to a near flawless All Blacks.

We’ve also written a new book, which has been a lot of fun to put together. Grand Tour Diaries will be available for sale and we’ll be on hand to sign. Who’s in?!

It was an exploration of what the human is capable of. The entire point was to push beyond what had been done before. The fact that thought, planning and a strategy was required doesn’t take away from it in my view, but rather shows what a challenge it was to begin with.

Ineos really understanding the cycling vibe already. A team of people working for and celebrating one athlete’s glory. What a run. Eluid Kipchoge has made history. He’s done it.

This is absolutely compelling viewing. Kipchoge looking like he’s going to become the first person to run a sub- 2 hour marathon. The stats on this pace are phenomenal. And everywhere, so I won’t bore you. But just, wow.

Really nice piece, this. Worth a read. Love how Rod consulted his 7-year-old daughter before making the move from Sky/Ineos.

A sensational heptathlon gold for Katarina Johnson-Thompson and a big day for Tammy Abraham... it's Friday's back page. Inside, cracking columns from and and plenty more besides.

For all her injuries this year, Nafi Thiam has secured 4 PBs. She seemed extremely confident and relaxed in her usual understated way when I saw her a few days ago. As she declines a third javelin throw, this heptathlon now KJT’s for the taking.

What a shame to see Kevin Mayer unable to defend his decathlon title. Was bidding to become just the third man in history to successfully defend world title with world indoor in between. The fact are so few, shows what a big ask it was.
