I was generating large unit tests that generated permutations of instructions that don’t necessarily make sense and comparing results of those instructions, noticed that qemu was generating wrong results than my “ground truth” and investigated.

Woop woop. Found a legitimate bug in qemu's x86 emulation. When you combine REX with LAHF/SAHF then instead of using AH it will try to use the low eight bits of RSP. These instructions aren't effected by REX on hardware.
