Tomorrow, 14th June, marks 102 years since end of the Battle of Messines in 1917, in which 8 antecedent regiments of The Rifles took part. British and ANZAC troops successfully captured the heavily defended ridge, partly thanks to the use of mines built under the German lines.

The 6th June marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day. The first action of the invasion was Operation Deadstick, which was fought by one of the antecedent regiments of The Rifles, the Ox and Bucks LI. Their objective was the capture of bridges over the River Orne and the Caen Canal.
