A conservator re-gilding a small frame from the Dance cabinet in the South Drawing room earlier this week, following a number of repairs to the frame's surface. The Museum is currently closed for conservation, reopening 16 January.

Closed week allows our conservators to create scaffolds in the Museum to access some of its harder-to-reach spaces, including the Picture Room. The Museum reopens 16 January.

One of our major projects during closed week has been to remove the portrait of Soane aged 76 by Sir Thomas Lawrence. Removing the painting has revealed a section of the original 'Roman Red' walls of the Library-Dining Room, which survive since Soane's day. We reopen 16 January.
