Many ski areas in the Alps are fully or partially closed today as Storm Ciara/Sabine rages on - very strong winds are the main problem.Some ski areas have reported up to 25cm (10 inches) of snow in the first 24 hours too though.

Unfortunately it was too warm and someties raining to quite high altitudes in the Alps over the past few days. It's getting colder again and widespread snowfall is forecast this week. The highest slopes did get snow yesterday too, with reporting 30cm (a foot) more.

It's still rather too warm, too often, this winter in the Pacific Northwest and it's due to rain today before more heavy snowfall moves in; but that has not stopped in Washington State, as usual, building the world's deepest base at 4.8 metres (16 feet) up top so far.

The snow from the current storm in the Alps is really starting to build up with one resort now claiming more than a metre (40 inches) in the past 72 hours. Here's and cars . We've not seen many images like this in the Alps since before Christmas.

The deepest snow accumulated from the storm currently hitting the Alps has been reported at 85cm (nearly 3 feet) in parts of the Valais. Here's this morning, up to 55cm (nearly two feet) so far. High avalanche danger and many areas fully/partially closed today.
