I started a petition to bring the block button to Slack. Why? because a friend, and other people, have faced workplace harassment and have had no way to stop that harassment when it spills over to . Slack, it's time to add a block button.

Not to mention, slack is also used for informal non-work group discussions, so a block feature would be REALLY useful. Make it an admin toggle if you must.

Slack
Blocking users doesn't fit our focus as a tool built for team collaboration. If users are running into any issues with other members, we'd hope the workspace admins would help address this with the user.

business workspace admins are often people in IT and have no authority to address anything with any user. also we know that HR is often not empowered or motivated to take action against people who aren’t outright violating employment law. time to revisit this stance .

We’re still looking at more options, and this is not the full request, but: we did just ship muting on individual users (between the original tweet here and now).

Add blocking to just unpaid slacks, because those are the ones that need it. Paid slacks are generally going to be businesses that have some sort of incentive to police abuse

It's incredibly naive to think block buttons aren't needed to deal with harassment at workplaces, and to assume that all employers handle harassment appropriately

Agreed. Tthis will shut down collaboration on slack over time. Esp. if it's grudgingly implemented such that it notifies mgt if blocking is going on. No one will want to say a thing on it, bc bloated entitled ***hats will terrorize at will, and HR will move in for kill

If this is the focus, and you're not planning to implement a block feature, then should make it clear that Slack isn't a tool built for social environments where complex conflicts may arise.
